City Subsidized Composting

So yesterday I went out to the Queens Botanical Garden and got an Earth Machine composter. New York City runs a program that subsidizes the cost of these composters and the end price was $60. Normally it's around $100 so that's not a bad deal any way you cut it. For folks who are interested in this, each borough has their own composter available.

Spring Seed Starting

With spring tentatively rolling it, some friends of mine and I started four flats of seeds in the basement underneath some cheap grow lights. That was a week ago on Sunday. As of this morning, all the seeds have spouted except for the flowers and several are over two inches high. The sunflowers are as tall as a chopstick!Here's what we planted, in no particular order:
